About Newport League of Friends
Newport League of Friends is a charity based in Newport, Shropshire, which supports Newport Cottage Care Centre. Most of its fundraising comes from the League of Friends’ charity shop in Baddeley Court, Newport. The charity makes regular sizeable donations to the Care Centre as well as completely funding the running of its X-ray Unit. A major fundraising drive was held to buy the equipment and the charity pays all the running costs.
The League of Friends of the Cottage Care Centre was formed in 1973 to support the work done by the NHS. After the closure of the hospital in 1989 the League bought the hospital premises and after the necessary adaptations it was opened as a Day Centre for the elderly. A Trust was formed to operate the Centre which is now a totally separate charity.
The charity shop is open from Monday to Saturday from 9.30am – 4pm, except for Bank Holidays. It is well supported by the local residents by both donating and buying goods.
